Frequently asked questions
We pick up where the Investment Consultants leave off by providing hard analytical evidence of the real skills behind managers' track records. We see ourselves as complementing and enhancing a Consultant's contribution. In the words of one of our clients "we are able to combine the best qualitative advice with Inalytics' quantitative analysis." Finally, Inalytics does not provide investment advice: we provide the evidence for our clients to make informed decisions themselves. 2. We have already got an attribution analysis, why do I need this one too? Performance measurements and attribution analyses ultimately give you the results but tell you little about why they were good or bad or the skills which drove them. In sporting terms, they tell you if you won or lost the game but don’t tell you how the game was played. Our reports go beyond attribution analysis as we analyse every trade and portfolio position on a daily basis to identify the strengths and gaps in a manager's decision making. We believe that it is through this deep forensic analysis that an understanding and appreciation of whether the results are repeatable comes. 3. How much history do you need to run your reports? A minimum of two years history is required to achieve a robust analysis. Any further history after this will improve the quality of our reports. The data can either be supplied remotely from a central record keeper, such as a Custodian, or be provided directly. 5. Are you able to analyse long short managers? We can analyse all types of equity managers, including traditional long only, long/short, and active extension fund managers. 6. Do we require a separate terminal to access our reports? Our analyses are delivered via a web-based portal accessible via any terminal which is connected to the internet. This is often supplemented by written reports, presentations, and meetings arranged at the request of clients. 7. How often are reports generated? This is at the discretion of the client. 8. How long does it take to generate a report once the manager's data has been provided? This depends on the quality of the data supplied to us. If the data is of a good quality then it may take a few days to generate the report from start to finish. However, if the data is of insufficient quality, then the process may take longer while the data issues are resolved. 9. Is Inalytics prepared to present the analysis to Senior Management and Boards of Trustees? Yes, because we believe that 'running the numbers' is only part of our job and that clients should have the opportunity to ask questions and probe for further insights. Also, our clients’ investment committees are often made up of non-investment professionals and we have been told that one of our strengths is that our analyses are easily understandable and avoid jargon.
